Thornton’s Style Hard Toffee

How to make a Thornton’s Style Hard Toffee.

Half a can of Condensed Milk.
Half a tablespoon of Butter.
Tiny pinch of Salt.
1 Teaspoon of Coffee granules dissolved in a teaspoon of boiling water.
1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Essence. ( Always use the best available).

Line a small tray with baking paper.
Starting melting the butter and add the condensed milk and salt.
When the mixture is warm add the coffee and vanilla.
Now over a low to medium heat, continuously stir the mixture with a wooden spoon.
It will get very hot, so do not try and taste it.
It is important to stir the mixture and not stop.
After 8-10 minutes the mixture will thicken.
You want it thick enough, so when you run the wooden spoon through it, it does not melt together again for a least 2-3 seconds.
Now pour it into your tray.
Place in the fridge for a couple of hours to harden.
When hard, remove. Place some baking paper over the top, and smash with a rolling pin.
Store in baking paper or a paper bag somewhere cool.
