Ghee Rice

How to make Ghee Rice.

Ghee Rice is a very flavourful rice recipe prepared using fresh ghee and aromatic whole spices. This is one of the best and easiest rice dishes that you can prepare in less than 30 minutes and is a perfect dish to impress your family and friends with your culinary skills.

Ingredients: Serves 4

  • 300g Basmati Rice
  • 1 tbsp Ghee (brown butter)
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 2 Cardamom pods
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 1 Star Anise (optional)
  • 1 Marati moggu (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste

Other Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 tbsp Ghee (Brown butter)
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp Cashews chopped
  • 1/2 cup Green peas (frozen)
  • 1/2 cup Sweet corn (frozen)
  • 1 Green chilli (chopped)


  1. Heat 1 tbsp of ghee in a pan.
  2. To this add uncooked rice and saute for 2 minutes on medium flame to get a nice aroma.
  3. Add bay leaf, cardamom pods, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, marati moggu, cumin seeds, salt to taste , 1 1/2 cup of water, and bring it to a boil.
  4. Cover with lid once the rice comes to a boil, and simmer on medium-low flame for 10 to 12 minutes or until rice is cooked through. 
  5. In another pan, heat 1 1/2 tbsp of ghee.
  6. Add cumin seeds and cashews and saute for a few seconds.
  7. Add chopped green chilli, green peas and sweet corn and continue to saute for another 2 or 3 minutes on medium flame.
  8. Add cooked rice form step and lightly-toss until combined.
  9. Serve and enjoy.
